Saskatoon could finally be getting a utility-scale solar power plant, if the federal and provincial governments come through with funding for the delayed $3.5-million project.

The proposed power station east of Montgomery Place is one of several projects the city hopes to fully or partially pay for using Ottawa’s massive 10-year infrastructure funding program.

City hall has previously suggested the up-to-three-megawatt station could be up and running by 2022.

This week, the Saskatchewan government announced that it had submitted applications to the Investing in Canada Infrastructure Program (ICIP) for almost $100-million worth of projects for the city.

Other items on the list include a new waste water lift station on Spadina Crescent, a twinned forcemain at the waste water treatment plant and Recovery Park, a one-stop waste disposal facility at the landfill.

All of the projects in this round fall under ICIP’s “green” and “community, culture and recreation” streams. Saskatchewan’s total share of the multi-billion-dollar federal program, rolled out in 2017, is $896 million.
