A Saskatoon city council candidate says he is getting tested for COVID-19 after attending two events with the president of the Metis Nation–Saskatchewan, who tested positive for the virus.

Chris Sicotte said he went to a fundraising dinner for mayoral candidate Rob Norris on Sept. 9 and also a dinner at a downtown steakhouse last week, both of which were attended by Glen McCallum.

“I’m a little concerned,” Sicotte said of his potential exposure to the virus.

The MN-S announced Saturday afternoon that McCallum had tested positive despite being asymptomatic.

“The Saskatchewan Health Authority is advising that anyone in close contact with McCallum in the past 14 days self-isolate, monitor for symptoms of COVID-19 and get tested if they experience any,” the MN-S said in a statement.

McCallum said his positive case should serve as a reminder to remain cautious and follow COVID-19 protocols. “This demonstrates how easily, and unknowingly, the virus is spread,” he said in a statement.
