Police say a Pensacola man used a Glock 27 pistol modified with an attached laser sight and flashlight to shoot another man in both of his legs.

Jesse Boone Jacobs, 39, was arrested Monday and charged with attempted murder, aggravated battery, a weapons offense for firing a gun and using a weapon during a felony.

He was booked into the Escambia County Jail with a $2.1 million bond, and county records indicated he remained in custody as of Tuesday.

Jacobs’ arrest report states there were three primary witnesses to what happened: the man who was shot, the man's wife and the man's daughter.

Around 8:30 p.m. April 10, the daughter was on the porch of her family's home in 6000 block of Tippin Avenue when she saw Jacobs on her next-door neighbor’s property, standing beside a tree.

The daughter told police her elderly neighbor had an in-home nurse who looked after her and she suspected Jacobs was waiting until the nurse left that night to break into the older woman’s home.

The daughter told police that as soon as the nurse left, she saw Jacobs, who was still standing beside her neighbor's tree, turn on a flashlight.

She said she yelled to Jacobs, "Hey, I wouldn’t do that," and he acknowledged her presence and responded with just "Hey," according to his arrest report.

The daughter alerted her parents to the situation, and her father walked outside and told Jacobs to, "Get out of here," the report stated.

Jacobs then ran across the street, flipped on a laser sight and started shooting at the father, striking him in the leg.

The father turned, and while moving back to his front door, he was shot again in his other leg. He fell to the ground and began yelling to his wife "I'm shot" as the laser dot continued to scan his body.

"It should be noted that while (the father) lay on the ground, the laser continued to aim at (him) and the suspect continued to shoot at (him) as if the suspect was attempting to kill him," the report stated.

When another family member pulled their vehicle into the driveway, the laser disappeared. Pensacola police found several 40-caliber shell casings in the area.

Prior to the shooting, police had already been in the area of Tippin Drive about an hour earlier investigating a “mental complaint” involving Jacobs, the report stated.

After the shooting, one of Jacobs' friends told police Jacobs had recently shown him new three firearms, including a Glock pistol modified with a combination flashlight-laser attachment.

Police found Jacobs later that night hiding in a backyard inside "a large box underneath several pillows" and a Glock 27 pistol a short distance away, the report stated.

On Aug. 20, PPD investigators received a laboratory report from the Florida Department of Law Enforcement that indicated the shell casings found at the shooting scene were fired from the Glock 27 found near Jacobs.

Authorities then charged Jacobs with attempted murder.
