GF News Forward: Eviction moratorium cause for concern, Evolve Grand Forks names executive director, community rates local police

Business writer Adam Kurtz will report that the board of directors of Evolve Grand Forks has named Maggie Ducheney Smith as the nonprofit’s new executive director.

Smith will take over for Jared Westrem, who stepped in as interim executive director after Collin Hanson stepped down at the end of 2019. Smith formerly served as the chief programs officer at Valley Educational Associates, a human services nonprofit in Hatfield, Massachusetts.

“The city of Grand Forks is a mine of resources for innovative people,” said Smith in a press release. “I am looking forward to being an instrumental part of helping entrepreneurs succeed and drawing new interest to the 701 Coworking Space.”

Crime and court reporter Hannah Shirley dives into the results, which are overwhelmingly positive, from the biennial Grand Forks Police Department Citizen Survey, which seeks community feedback on satisfaction with local police. Beyond the numbers, however, in comments left by participants, a more nuanced portrait of the Grand Forks community's relationship with its police department comes into focus.
