Music fans can try to forget about the COVID-19 blues for a while by listening to the actual blues for hours during a free day-long live online festival.
Organized by the Long Beach Blues Society and Long Beach Gives, the virtual festival dubbed A Day of Blues will be streamed live on Facebook starting at 10 a.m. Sept. 24 with a lineup of more than two dozen acts slated to perform during the 10-hour event.
Headliners include established artists such as Grammy-winners Keb’ Mo’ and Robert Cray, as well as soul blues singer Sugaray Rayford and blues rocker Tommy Castro.
The livestream will include international acts as well, such as the Split Whiskers, who hail from the United Kingdom but play Chicago blues, plus locals New Blues Revolution and Shy But Flyy, both from Long Beach, and Anaheim’s Up Jumped the Bluez.
The event is free, but viewers are encouraged to donate funds that will benefit various music-related organizations as well as the Long Beach Blues Society and Long Beach Gives, which is an online initiative that aims to raise money for 150 local nonprofit organizations on Sept. 24.
