The moment she shows a someone a new side of themselves gives Pam Brace’s work as a photographer meaning.
As she works with a client, Brace likes to pause every so often to show them some of her shots. With her boudoir work, people are typically in disbelief that it’s them staring up from the camera screen.
That’s becauseboudoir is “a state of mind,” Brace said.
“I found that in doing boudoir photography, women see the more positive sides of themselves, and even start to love the parts of themselves that they didn’t even really like before,” she said.
That was especially true for a breast cancer survivor who had undergone a mastectomy. She looked at her portrait and saw herself in a new light, Brace said.
“She said, ‘I feel sexy, I feel strong. I feel whole again.’ ”
Brace, the owner of Roses and Scars Photography, has been a photographer for about two years and has worked with breast cancer survivors throughout this month.
