Eight new COVID-19 cases reported in Shasta County

Shasta County public health officials reported eight more people tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday.

That brings the total number of cases to 645 this year, according to an announcement Tuesday afternoon by Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency spokeswoman Kerri Schuette. 

One of the new patients reported no symptoms of the virus. Another patient was hospitalized.

All but one of the new patients are in their 30s or younger. Ages break down as follows: 

  • One boy age 12 or younger
  • One teenage girl and one teenage boy
  • One man in his 20s
  • Three men in their 30s
  • One man in his 80s

As of Monday, there were 21 active cases of COVID-19 in Shasta County. Three people were hospitalized; one in the ICU. Twenty-one people are in isolation, and another 99 are in quarantine. Twelve people died as a result of the virus.

Tehama County announces two additional COVID-19 deaths

5:15 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14

Two more Tehama County residents have died from the coronavirus, health officials announced Monday afternoon. They were two women, one in her 70s and one in her 80s, according to the Tehama County Health Services Agency.

The agency did not specify when they died other than "in the last several weeks." 

"Both individuals had several underlying medical conditions, which lead us to get confirmation with California Department of Public Health," read a news release from the agency. 

That brings the number of deaths due to the virus in the county to three. Tehama County's first death was announced on April 14. 

As of Monday, the county has had 473 confirmed cases and 9,814 negative test results. 

Shasta County sees 25 new COVID-19 cases over weekend

Shasta County health officials confirmed 25 new COVID-19 cases from over the weekend in patients whose ages range from their teens to their 90s.

Seven county residents tested positive for the virus last Friday and 18 more last Saturday, Shasta County Health and Human Services Agency spokeswoman Kerri Schuette reported on Monday. No cases were reported Sunday because testing facilities were closed. 

That brings the total caseload so far this year to 637, with 12 deaths.

Of the 25 new patients, 11 reported no symptoms of the virus. None were hospitalized.

They are: 

  • Two teenage girls
  • Three women and a man in their 20s
  • One woman and one man in their 30s
  • Two women and one man in their 40s
  • One man in his 50s
  • Four women and one man in their 60s
  • Two women in their 70s
  • Two women and three men in their 80s
  • One woman age 90 or older

While the county has not seen a 25-case bump like the one on Saturday in awhile, "these cases don’t appear to be the result of a large gathering," Schuette said in an email to the Record Searchlight. 

As of Saturday, there were 23 active cases of the virus in Shasta County. Two patients were hospitalized, 21 were in isolation and 105 were in quarantine. 

Twelve people have died as a result of the virus since the outbreak began.
