Two injured in apparent drive-by shooting in St. Lucie County

ST. LUCIE COUNTY — St. Lucie County Sheriff’s officials are investigating an apparent drive-by shooting incident Wednesday night that left two people injured, the agency stated.

The incident happened about 9:36 p.m. Wednesday on Sloan Road in the area of North 39th Street, a sheriff’s official said Thursday. The area is north of Orange Avenue near Angle Road.

A person or persons “opened fire at a group of people who were in the area striking one male and causing non-life threatening injuries to a second female,” the sheriff’s office stated about three hours after it occurred.

The person struck by gunfire was taken to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center & Heart Institute in Fort Pierce. His condition was not immediately available.

The other person injured was treated at Lawnwood hospital for minor injuries and released.

No other information was immediately available Thursday morning.
